On November 22, to accelerate the application of Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) in non-ferrous metal mines, the Non-ferrous Metal Mine TBM Development Seminar was held in Wuhan. The event was guided by the Mechanical Mining Committee of the China Nonferrous Metals Society, jointly organized by China 15th Metallurgical Group and BGRIMM Technology Group, and co-organized by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Group, China Railway Engineering Equipment Group, and CCCC Tianhe Mechanical Equipment. This marks the first national conference in the non-ferrous industry themed around TBMs.
Under the theme "Technology Empowerment · Collaborative Innovation—Driving Efficient Upgrading of Mine Mining," the seminar brought together over 170 experts and scholars from more than 50 units across various sectors, including municipal, highway, railway, hydropower, coal, and non-ferrous industries. Participants represented associations, research institutions, design units, mining companies, equipment manufacturers, and construction enterprises.
The seminar featured keynote speeches by Academician Li Xibing of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor at Central South University, and Yang Xiaocong, Director of the Mechanical Mining Committee of the China Nonferrous Metals Society and Chief Expert of BGRIMM Technology Group. Addresses were delivered by Wang Haibei, Deputy General Manager of BGRIMM Technology Group; Zhao Hui, Chairman of China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Group; Li Tao, General Manager of CCCC Tianhe; and Wang Kai, Deputy General Manager of China Railway Engineering Equipment. The meeting was chaired by Liang Lei, Party Committee Secretary and Chairman of China 15th Metallurgical Group.
The seminar comprised an opening ceremony, keynote reports, thematic discussions, and a closing ceremony. During the keynote reports, Academician Li Xibing presented on "Revisiting Non-Blasting Continuous Mining in Hard Rock," while Director Yang Xiaocong delivered a report titled "Application and Reflections on TBM Engineering Technology in Metal Mines." The thematic discussion segment focused on three areas: technology and design, equipment manufacturing, and engineering construction, adopting a "thematic report + thematic discussion" format. To ensure quality, the organizing committee solicited contributions from 46 TBM experts across various industries in advance, selecting 28 papers for inclusion in the report compilation and highlighting three as thematic reports. Sun Xuesen, Deputy Chief Engineer of the Mining Division at China ENFI Engineering Corporation; He Fei, Deputy Chief Engineer of China Railway Engineering Equipment; and Huang Dengxia, Executive General Manager of the Technology, Quality, and Digitalization Department at CCCC South China Regional Headquarters, presented thematic reports titled "Key Design Points for TBM Development Engineering in Non-Ferrous Mines," "Systematic TBM Solutions for Non-Ferrous Metal Mines," and "Experience Sharing on TBM + Drilling and Blasting Combined Construction in Typical Projects," respectively. Participants actively engaged in discussions, sharing the latest achievements, engineering practices, existing challenges, and potential solutions. During the closing ceremony, Chairman Liang Lei of China 15th Metallurgical Group presented a report titled "Research Framework for TBM Application in Non-Ferrous Metal Mines." Huang Dan, Secretary-General of the Mechanical Mining Committee, issued the "Initiative on Jointly Promoting TBM Application in Non-Ferrous Metal Mines" on behalf of the conference. Director Yang Xiaocong delivered concluding remarks. Attendees highly praised the seminar, describing it as a well-organized, open, shared, and distinctive high-quality event.
As one of the critical non-blasting mining methods, China 15th Metallurgical Group has been collaborating with leading industry units since 2023 to drive "cross-border innovation" and "integrated innovation." The company has since become the engineering enterprise in the non-ferrous sector with the largest number of TBM equipment, the most implemented projects, and the strongest comprehensive capabilities. Leveraging this seminar as an opportunity, China 15th Metallurgical Group will uphold the principles of "integrity, professionalism, and creating value with dedication" as well as "openness and sharing." The company aims to build an ecosystem with like-minded partners, foster cooperation for a brighter future, and contribute to the high-quality development of the non-ferrous metal industry.
